Some of our fan base get too carried away with our academy players and think they are better than they actually are.

How many academy players have we released that have come back to bite us on the arse?

Ray Houghton was the biggest one. John Lyall made a big mistake releasing him. Alvin Martin even told him so at the time.

The only other one was Matt Holland who went on to have a good career in the premiership for Ipswich.

I remember when we let go/sold Stanislaus & Zavon Hines there was an uproar on here.

How many on here are still talking about the regret of selling another player from the academy to West Brom for 18 million? Not many.

I thought Nathan Holland was one that would break through but it seems unlikely now.

They’re not that good

Most of these academy players end up in non league or L2, you only need to see how many of them fail to make any impact when out on loan at lower division clubs to see that

The u21 sides arent as good as the league 1 teams. Typically the u21 sides are missing their best players who are out on loan or in the first team

Gaffer

I just imagine if you are a professional or even semi-professional footballer and the powers that be think a bunch of kids are on your level, you want to prove something and have the game of your life.

Out of interest, since premiership are playing their U21’s as such against division 3/4 players why hasn’t any of the premiership clubs reached the final, are they not reall6 bothered or are they not really that good?

Can't see any youngsters troubling the first team any time soon.
Dan Kemp can't get a game at Blackpool.

Maybe the Mipo kid up front who we nicked from Man U.

Interesting line-up for this - Yarmolenko and Dawson are in the side, and Nathan Holland is back.

0-0 after 20.

Yes it is their first team.
But my previous comments still stand.
In this competition and in its previous guises as the leasing.com and the Checkatrade Trophy we play our Under 21s the lower division sides play their 1st Team.
The admission has always been sensible money. I’ve been to Wycombe, Swindon, Bristol, Cheltenham, Coventry, Newport County and Luton from memory watching our lot. To be honest it’s been hugely enjoyable going to the older grounds but I don’t remember anywhere charging this much.
Given that the clubs say they want crowds back and I, and I’m sure other supporters, want to watch live football again it seems a strange pricing structure.

Re: Under 21s at Peterborough Tuesday 8th Dec
This is against their first team, isn't it? Not just their U21s. That would be the reason for the price.

I’d be interested to know how the forward Afolayan gets on. From the little I’ve seen of him he seems to have something about him.

It’s a cup away game you are obviously paying for the team to get there......

Maybe you get free pizza with that price?

Re the £18

Totally agree the price is outrageous.
I’ve watched the Under 21s in this tournament as the Leasing.com last year and the Checkatrade Trophy before that.
I don’t think I’ve paid even £10 before.
I get that home club have got costs but £18 is well over the top.
Can’t help but wonder if it’s because we are the visitors and they think that our local support will turn up regardless.
